Strong Families programs support and strengthen families in ways that promote good parenting for the optimal development of young children.
"Call 2-1-1": The Commission was fundamental in the creation of 211, the countywide phone center that connects Orange County residents to community health service and support, ranging from food, to shelter resources, substance abuse services, counseling, health care, Family Resource Centers, government assistance programs, volunteer connections and more.
HomeAid Orange County, through Commission support, funds transitional shelters that homeless families build and support, including: Precious Life Shelter for young mothers, the Fullerton Interfaith Emergency Services shelter for homeless families and individuals, and Casa Teresa's comprehensive residential program for women and infants. The Commission is also funding the Orange County Rescue Mission Village of Hope shelter, which is anticipated to open spring 2007.
The Commission sponsors HomeAid's annual fundraiser, Project Playhouse which invites Southern California homebuilders to volunteer labor and materials in constructing whimsical playhouses for display and auction each year. Proceeds support construction and renovation of Orange County's shelter projects.
