Families represent 63 percent of those living in Orange County shelters and they are in need of these basic essential items such as diapers, wipes and food. Nearly 13,000 individuals experience homelessness each year in Orange County. And about 1 in 20 mothers has had to cut back on other purchases to pay for diapers and has also had to reuse a disposable diaper which exposes the baby to infections and other health risks. The Commission partners with HomeAid Orange County each year for the Essentials for Young Lives Campaign, a community-wide effort to help and encourage homeless families and ensure the health of babies by providing a basic need – diapers. The simple donation of a box of baby wipes multiplied by thousands can change lives.
