More than 3,600 children participated in the Children and Families Commission’s “Read Early, Read Aloud” campaign, a month-long series of child literacy-themed events in honor of Child Literacy Month. In addition, nearly 10,000 books were distributed to children and parents in November.

FAMILIES PARTICIPATE IN CHILDREN’S HEALTH FAIR
Several hundred children and families attended the Children’s Health and Resource Fair held Saturday, November 14th at Mitchell Child Development Center in Santa Ana. Children received free dental, asthma and developmental screenings. Santa Ana’s School Readiness Nurses measured children’s height, weight and BMI. In addition, families received assistance with health insurance, information on vision screenings, programs for new mothers, and tips on healthy eating and cooking.
LA HABRA LITERACY FAIR RECEIVES FIRST-EVER GOLDEN BELL AWARD
It looks like La Habra is ringing in a new era where literacy is flourishing. This month, the School Readiness Program in La Habra received the coveted Golden Bell Award for its early literacy fair. This is the first ever Golden Bell for the La Habra City School District.
